Can palm frond Christmas lights harm the growing point?
Only if they're placed carelessly. The growing point at the center of the crown is the one spot a palm can't recover from if it's injured. We keep strands clear of it, avoid tight binding on fronds, and use lightweight LED strands that add minimal weight.
Do the fronds need to be trimmed before lighting?
Dead or drooping fronds hold lights poorly and can drop in wind, so we flag them during the site walk. We'd rather you have a qualified palm trimmer remove only dead fronds than over-prune the palm to make room for lights.
Will wind knock the lights off the fronds?
Fronds move constantly in Florida wind, so we attach strands along the frond ribs and leave slack for that movement. If a storm does shift something, our maintenance and repair service can re-secure or replace it.
Which palms work best for crown and frond lighting?
Palms with a full, open crown and sturdy fronds, such as royal, sabal, queen, and Canary Island date palms, take crown lighting well. Palms with dense skirts of dead fronds need cleanup before they can be lit safely.
Can I add crown lighting to palms that already have trunk wraps?
Yes, and the two pair well: the trunk wrap makes a glowing column and the crown lighting adds the burst on top. They're separate designs, so you can start with the crown and add trunk wraps later.
